I got an email from my blog reader, asking how to identify if the processor compatible Windows 10 OS or not?
It was a good question, We get popup message from Microsoft to upgrade the computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10, It’s a free upgrade, no additional license required and all you need to download tool to upgrade. But Most users never think or check if the processor is compatible with Windows 10. Do they have hardware drivers for Windows 32 bit or 64 bit OS? Without Preliminary checks doing the upgrade will end up with compatible problem and performance issues.
Step by Step Guide How to identify processor is compatible with Windows 10
In Search bar type in system, then select system Information, which shows complete hardware information on your computer, search for processor. you will find information about processor model, frequency, cores and logical processors.
In the image you can see the processor is i5-4210M i.e. development code name.
Open the product specification page https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark.html
in search bar enter the processor development code name i5-4210M
You will see the details as shown in the image. Code name is HASWELL
Check the code name HASWELL is listed in below table or not, If listed, processor is compatible with Windows 10. check this table of code name here
In our example, Haswell is listed in the table and drivers available for Windows 10 64 bit but not for Windows 10 32 bit OS.
